Jewels from the Dark

The more life I experience, the more I am convinced that we must learn to embrace the darkness that visits us all. Life is full of bright moments and depths of darkness. While we may crave the sunlight, we must learn to mine the jewels from the dark.

I have spent the majority of my adult life in public service to others – first in Emergency Medicine and then in Law Enforcement. I have walked ‘through the valley of the shadow of death,’ on my own and with others. I have stilled my heart while being present with others in the midst of great grief and loss. All of these moments in time have brought me a deep appreciation for what happens in the darkest times. There are things – jewels of wisdom, grace and hope – which can only be found in the depth of pain and despair. These jewels come through hardship and can only be mined by those committed to seeing the beauty of the deep.

I am creating this space to process my own journey into the deep, where I am still learning how to walk in and find the jewels from the dark. I invite you to come along with me…
